A new year greeting from this tiny sub-tropical island; Okinawa,Japan.
To the friends in the U.S. or elsewhere in the world.
Although this island consists just 0.6 percent land area of Japan, 75 percent of U.S. military bases are located here.
Furthermore, U.S. and Japanese governments have been promoting a relocation plan for outdated U.S.Marine Corps Futenma Air Station in Ginowan to other parts of this tiny island.
They have decided to construct a newly equipped heliport offshore Henoko, eastcoast of Nago city.
Nago and other northern parts of Okinawa has boasted its great variety of fauna and flora.
This could be completely destroyed by the construction of the heliport.
Noise pollution, air pollution, soil contamination by hazardous chemicals, accidents, violent crimes committed by ill-disciplined soldiers: Okinawan people have experienced all of these elsewhere in this island since the U.S. military occupation era after the war.
We don't need any MORE bases! Enough is enough!
Some may make money by the construction, but, please remember, vast majority of residents here opposes the plan.
So please help us! Ask your government leaders to stop this destructive relocation plan!
Please raise your voices and take actions against the extention of the military bases in Okinawa!
Give us hope to live peacefully without military beses, without relying on base-related industries.
Why Okinawa? Keystone of the Pacific? We don't know. It's not our fault!
